New Hampshire or Bust

Help a dog go east this Christmas. If you have someone on your list who has everything, you always hear the advice to donate money in their name or do some good financial deed.

We’ll I’ll jump on this bandwagon and give you a suggestion. If not purchasing it for yourself, then purchase the ornament for the hard to buy for person which will in turn help a dog move from an overcrowded Shelby County, AL. shelter to a NH shelter. According to the website these shelters exist in areas that have better spay/neuter and dog ownership laws so their shelters are not overcrowded. Apparently the dogs are often adopted out within days of transport. I imagine traveling all that way must be scary for the dogs, but a life without a family, or under the shadow of a death sentence would be far scarier.

They have a list of dogs you can sponsor and you get to pick a dog who you want to know makes it out. You don’t have to though, you can let them pick randomly. I heard about this through Whole Foods FB page. Whole Foods is just one place you can get one of the ornaments. Also check out Shelby County Humane Societies Page for the list of dogs and to purchase an ornament. I saw on another page that there were some ornaments available for $25 that would not get a dog out per se, but would help fund the shelter dogs basic needs. In other words, partial donations are accepted!

I’ll be doing this as soon as Brandon has a chance to help pick out a dog that we’d like to help transport out. I’ll post the update on here in a day or two letting you know who we sponsored. Please consider doing this yourself, and let me know who you chose to sponsor.

Thanks 🙂 We just bought an ornament for Marable! I can’t wait to see her face hanging on our tree and know she’s getting a forever home very soon. Reading the article you linked to- especially the part about the 24 hour drive up makes me want to volunteer! I’d love to be part of something so awesome. Maybe one day?
